Creating A Healing Space at Home!

Healing spaces sometimes reduce stress, bring joy and excitement, and improve your health and well-being. There are so many simple and affordable ways to improve your space, for example:

  • Adding a few new pillows

  • Adding texture or color to your walls

  • Adding simple pieces of artwork and affirmations that hang throughout the space

  • Adding a minor

  • Adding curtains or blinds

  • Adding a lamp, ceiling fan, or chandelier

  • Adding greenery for energy, such as house plants and flowers

  • De-cluttering and cleaning

  • Bringing in essential oils

Have you heard of the saying, "Home is where you make it" or "Home is where the heart is"? In my mind, the saying means that you tend to be happier when you have a beautiful home because it's based on your energy and mood. It then becomes a healing place because it was created for you by you. Home should be a secret place where you are free to release and relax. If you are reading this and feel like your home or space does not provide healing, let us encourage you by giving you a few tips and tricks.

Don't be afraid of color

Don't shy away from color. On those cold winter months when you haven't had any vitamin D, walking into a space embraced with color and texture will surely change the mood.

  • Explore colors, don't be afraid of them. So many vivid colors provide a sense of welcome and freedom. Try a colored accent wall.

  • Don't be afraid to accent your space with different colors and textures. You would be surprised how different colors and patterns interact with one another. Be BOLD be you! This is for my color-shy folks. You can still add pops of color using your furniture, home accessories, and accents.

  • Adding accent pillows in different colors/textures is very low-budget and affordable. I love pillows and the fact that they are so interchangeable. Shop your local Goodwill, Walmart, Target, Facebook marketplace, Amazon, and even garage sales for reasonable prices. Amazon has so many pillow covers ranging from $6 and up, allowing you to remove your old pillow cover and throw on a new one. Throw pillows are a super easy fix to change the flow and mood of your space.

  • Because we are discussing color, space can't provide healing without nature. Bring those green plants and flowers into your space. Studies have shown that plants increase mood, reduce stress, eliminate air pollutants, and simply make you feel good. My space is not a space without a plant! Can the real plant moms stand up, please?

Simplify your space

Listen, I know you are busy with work, cooking dinner, being a mother, wife, husband, friend, waymaker, and so much more, but let's face it, you just have to simplify.

  • De-clutter by getting rid of old items that are no longer useful. You know those jeans that have been sitting in your closet for six years that you no longer wear? Yes, honey, those, it's time to let them go. Donate them to a family that can benefit from them or drop them off at your local Goodwill or resale shops.

  • Start cleaning and airing out your space to remove dust and toxins. How can your space provide healing if you have all that dust resting on your ceiling fan?

There is a sense of gratitude when your home or space is clean, fresh, and clutter-free. Coming home to a space where everything is in order definitely turns into a healing space.

Decorate with Purpose

I don't believe there is a right way to decorate. Of course, we all have our preferences and like things the way we see them perfectly. Let's use these tips and tricks to help YOU decorate with a purpose to create your healing space. Add meaningful items to your space, such as:

  • Photographs, which tell a story and have symbolic meaning

  • Religious attributes

  • Hand-made artwork

  • Items that describe who you are as an individual

  • Furniture that captures your style and personality, have some fun!

There is no rhyme or reason play with your ideas and make it YOU! You are the one coming into this space every day. When you walk in after a long day of work, (especially after Karen pissed you off), you should almost immediately feel better, because now you can say exactly what you want to say. It's your world, shake your head, get loud, scream, curse, whatever you need to do (no judgment here).

Quiana Renea's Healing Place

Background and love for Décor

I have a huge love for all things décor. My family and friends will tell you that my space is definitely a representation of my character. When you walk into my home, you can feel my energy, the healing it provides, the comfort it supports, and the love I've poured into it. It is my healing space, my comfort, and my vibe, created by me for me!

Bathroom

My bathrooms are white, cream, and brown because I love relaxation, and those colors provide a clean, open, fresh, and spa-like feel.

Office

My office is grey, yellow, black and white. I have a textured accent wall that is black and white with lines. My curtains are grey and sit high above the start of my windows to give the illusion of taller ceilings. I have a large yellow accent chair that sits near my wooden and grey standing desk. I have various gold, white, and yellow accents that feed off the vibe. In my mind, this space provides excitement, drama, boldness, uniqueness, creativity, and enrichment.

Favorite Places to Shop

Here are a few of my favorite places to shop:

  • HomeGoods

  • Ross - don't sleep it on until you've tried it

  • Amazon - my mom knows all about this (insider)

  • GoodWill - don't forget they have new and used items and some are really expensive for a low cost. (My friend Sharron can tell you about my shopping experience at Goodwill years ago. You can't keep me out of them now!)

  • Garage sales - Have you gone into some of your high-end neighborhoods? They are always removing barely used items that need a new home. I am HERE for it!

  • Floor and Décor

  • Target

  • Walmart - they sometimes have cute items for a low price

There are so many but that's just a few.
